Samsung phone not charging is never an ideal situation. Before you book an appointment at the nearest service center, use the tricks below to juice it up and bring it back to life.

1. Remove the Case

Using an inexpensive case may prevent the USB connecter to slot properly in the charging port. You might have to check if the case allows the USB port to function properly. Otherwise, you may remove the case and try charging your Samsung Galaxy phone again.

2. Wait for Some Time

After a heavy gaming session or a big update on your Samsung Galaxy phone, the device temperature can go abnormally high. You need to wait for some time, let your phone cool down, and try charging it again. Temperatures also go high when you record a long high-resolution view.

3. Restart the Phone

Sometimes, a simple reboot can fix glitches like a Samsung Galaxy phone not charging. You need to restart your phone and try again. Step 1: Swipe down from the top to access the Notification Center. Step 2: Swipe down again to reveal the quick toggles menu. Step 3: Tap the power button at the top. Step 4: Select Restart. Wait for your Galaxy phone to reboot and then try charging it again.

4. Check the Power Adapter

You’ll need to inspect the supplied or a third-party power adapter closely for any damage. You can try charging another phone or device with it and if the issue persists, then you’ll need to buy a new power adapter. You need to replace it with a new one and try charging your Samsung phone again.

5. Check the Charging Cable

While Samsung has removed power adapters from the packaging, the company still offers a data cable with it. However, they could be more robust out there. Over time, the data cable may get damaged due to wear and tear. You should closely inspect both sides of the data cable.

If the supplied cable is damaged or has any sign of tear, it may cause trouble while charging the phone. You can get a new USB cable for charging and data transfer.

6. Clean Charging Port

One of our Samsung Galaxy phones picked up a lot of debris and dust over time. We checked the charging port and cleaned it properly. The Galaxy phone started charging afterward. You can do the same and fix the Samsung phone not charging. Try cleaning the charging port by yourself or get help from a professional.

7. Look for Hardware Damage

Did you damage your Samsung phone by accident? You’ll need to check the charging port to ensure it hasn’t suffered any damage. If it has, visit the nearest service center to repair the port. That’s because a damaged USB port can’t charge the phone and nor it can support data transfer.

8. Disable Protect Battery Function

All Samsung Galaxy phones come with protect battery function that limits the charge to 85% only. It’s an intentional behavior to improve the lifespan of your device’s battery. iOS also comes with a similar function called ‘Optimized Battery Charging.’ You have the option to disable the function so that your Galaxy phone charges past 85%. Go through the steps below to make changes. Step 1: Swipe up from the home screen and open Settings. Step 2: Scroll down and tap ‘Battery and device care.’ Step 3: Tap Battery. Step 4: Tap ‘More battery settings.’ Step 5: Turn off the toggle next to Protect battery.

9. Uninstall Irrelevant Apps

One of the recently installed apps may cause a charging issue on your Samsung Galaxy phone. You should uninstall such apps and charge your phone again. Step 1: Identify recently installed apps on your phone. Step 2: Long-press on an app and select Uninstall. Step 3: Repeat the same to remove all irrelevant and rarely used apps.

10. Try Wireless Charging

Samsung’s Galaxy flagship line-up supports a wireless charging. If the standard charging isn’t working, you can try wireless charging as a temporary solution. But, the wireless charging will not offer high speeds as the wired one.

Charge It Up

When none of the tricks work, you need to replace your phone’s aging battery. You’ll need to stay away from anti-virus or device protection apps on your Samsung phone. These apps mess up your phone functions. Did you manage to fix the charging issues on your Samsung Galaxy phone? Which trick worked for you? Share your findings in the comments below.
