But one hardly listens to local media files these days. We have streaming services like Spotify and Rdio which make it super easy to discover and listen to new music. But they lack the option of sound enhancements. Therefore, to fix things out on Android for music buffs, today I am going to talk about two interesting sound enhancing apps to get better sound effects globally on Android. There’s one app each – for rooted and non-rooted Android users. So let’s take a look.
Noozxoide EIZO-Rewire PRO (Non-Rooted)
As odd as the name of the app might sound, it works great when it comes to digitally enhancing the audio output from your Android phone. The scope of apps is limited when they are not designed for a rooted phone, still Noozxoide EIZO-Rewire does a great job in its functionality. The app is available on the Play Store and can be installed on any Android phone out there. The last update date on the app is Jan 2013, but it works great without any issues. After you install and launch the app, it will give you three options on the app landing page. The options are Line-out (for headphones and external speakers), speakers (the internal ones) and wireless for Bluetooth headsets/speakers. You can select any of the enhancements depending upon how you would be playing your media. The app reproduces the sound from any app on Android virtually and delivers them in high quality. The working of the app can be slightly complicated to understand, but I am sure that’s not what we are interested in. Let’s see how the app performs. I tested the app with my Monster DNA headphones and JBL Bluetooth speakers and there was a significant difference in the sound. Noozxoide is not your run-of-the-mill sound equalizer where you can increase the bass or treble on a song. Here you can work on surround sound, digital presets and the likes. If you are not sure what each of the settings mean, just do a trial and error method till you get the best sound quality. If you want to disable Noozxoide, open the App Info from the persistent notification in the drawer and tap on force close. Viper4Android Audio Effects (Root Required)
Viper4Android Audio Effects is the ultimate app to use if you have root access on your Android phone. The privileges provided by rooting are required to install special audio libraries and drivers for the app to work. Viper4Android will ask you to grant it root access the first time you launch the app. After installing the drivers, you will be asked to reboot the device for the changes to take effect. Note: The app would ask you for the kind of audio enhancement you would like. I would recommend Super Audio Quality. Remember that the app requires at least a dual core smartphone with a gig of RAM to function. Finally, open up the Android Settings and navigate to Sound—>Music Enhancement and select Viper4Android. Once you have done that, the app is your playground. There are different settings for speakers, headphones and Bluetooth speakers with an amazing equalizer and various presets. So as I already mentioned, try out different permutations and combinations of settings till you get the best sound experience.

To be frank, there were many settings in the two apps that even I don’t understand, but I managed to pull it off. It’s your ears who need to make the decision for you here so try out different combinations, no matter what it says. Just remember to listen to songs under safe levels when using headphones.
