A misplaced phone in silent mode might make you feel helpless, but only until you read this article. Check out three interesting ways to find your misplaced Android phone even when it’s on vibrate or silent mode.
1. Using Android Locate Feature (Requires Internet)
This method to find your phone is ideal when the phone is connected to the internet using either the home Wi-Fi connection or 3G data. The Google dashboard provides you the option to locate the last known position of the phone on a map. To activate the one-time settings on your Android, open the Security Settings and tap on Device Manager. Here, turn on the option for Android Device Manager and grant it permission to lock, erase, and change the password remotely. Now when you want to find the phone, open up Google and simply search for Find My Phone. If you are logged in using your credentials, you will see a small frame on the page with a mini map. The map will pinpoint the location of your mobile and also give you the option to ring it remotely. Once you click on the ring button your device will ring at full volume for 5 minutes. After you locate the phone, press the power button to stop the ring. The feature also allows you to remotely wipe the phone and lock it in case you lose it.
2. Using Ring My Droid (Requires Mobile Network)
There are chances that the phone might not be connected to an internet connection and that’s when you can use an app called Ring My Droid. After the app is installed on your phone, you can set an SMS phrase and save the settings. The day when you wish to locate your phone when it’s in silent mode, just grab a phone of one of your friends, spouse, or relative and send an SMS to your phone with the phrase saved in the app. The app will detect the incoming message and ring your phone even when in silent mode. You can then follow the sound and find the phone. The only thing you must we cautious about is setting the phrase. Always keep your phrase secret. You wouldn’t want anyone to prank you while you are in a middle of a meeting or serious discussion. I mean who wouldn’t want to play this prank, right?
3. Using Clap to Find App (Requires just a Few Claps)
Consider the worst case scenario – phone in flight mode. In this case, your clap (yes, you read that right) can help you out. After installing an app called Clap to Find you’ll be able to make your phone ring using three consecutive claps. When you install the app, it will ask you to configure the sound of the clap and set the sensitivity. You can choose to ring, vibrate, and turn on the flashlight of the app using the settings. To find the phone, just clap three times and if set to right sensitivity level, the phone will ring even in silent mode. The problem, however, is that the app just works on clap sound and not on clap patterns. Therefore, keep the app a secret and don’t let the word out to your friends. Someone like me can really give you a hard time.
That Covers it All
These three apps cover every possible situation where you might need to find your phone at home or in the office. If by any chance your phone is switched off, the only option would be to sit down, relax, and backtrack down memory lane. Just remember to be a bit more careful next time.
