What Is a Facebook Story and How Does It Work

Snapchat initially introduced the Story feature, and it became an instant hit among users. Later, Instagram, WhatsApp, and its parent company, Facebook, launched the same on their platforms. Unlike normal posts, your friend and family members can’t like or comment on your stories. Stories remain visible on the top of the News Feed and usually get better engagement than normal posts.

Can I See Who Viewed My Facebook Story

Facebook introduced a way to check your story viewers. While it was aimed at businesses to track story engagement, normal users can check a list of Facebook story viewers. Here’s what you need to do. Note: We have used Facebook for iPhone in the screenshots below. You can follow the same steps on Facebook for Android. Both apps use the same user interface. Step 1: Open the Facebook app on your phone. Step 2: Select your uploaded story at the top. Step 3: Check the number of viewers in the bottom left corner. Tap on it. Step 4: You can glance over a list of friends and family members who viewed your Facebook story. The app shows recent story viewers at the top. WhatsApp shows when (date and time) the person has viewed your story. Unfortunately, the same isn’t available on Facebook. You can hit Refresh at the top to check the newest story viewers. You can check Facebook story viewers on the web too. Step 1: Head to the Facebook site on the web. Visit Facebook Step 2: Open your story. Step 3: Select your story viewers from the bottom. Step 4: Check the viewers list.

Check a List of Past Facebook Story Viewers

While your Facebook stories disappear for others after 24 hours, you can always check them from the Archive menu. You can glance over your past stories and viewers list on Facebook. It’s another neat trick from the company. Other social media platforms delete your stories and make them inaccessible. Step 1: Launch the Facebook app on your phone and open a current story. Step 2: Tap current viewers at the bottom. Step 3: Select the Story Archive menu at the top-right corner. Step 4: You can check all your previous stories with a date. You can open any story and check viewers from the bottom-right corner. You can save the story, delete it, or share it as Reel from the same menu. Only you can see your story archive. If you don’t want Facebook to save your stories, tap the Settings gear at the top and disable the ‘Save to archive’ toggle.   If you tag the location with your stories, you can also check the location map. You can select the maps icon and check the location history.

Facebook Story Privacy Settings

It’s important to understand the Story privacy settings. If you share your Facebook story with selected contacts or friends, it heavily impacts the story reach. You can also share your story with everyone on the platform. Let’s go through all the privacy settings. Step 1: Open the Facebook app on your phone and create a new story. Step 2: Tap the Settings gear at the top-right corner to open Story Privacy. You can share your Facebook story with the public, keep it to friends only, create a custom list to share with or exclude annoying friends from your story. Step 1: Open the Facebook app on your phone and tap your profile icon at the bottom-right corner. Step 2: Tap Settings from the Settings & Privacy menu. Step 2: Select Profile Locking and unlock your profile from the following menu. You can now make your Facebook stories visible to everyone on the platform.

Who Are Others in Facebook Story Viewers

When you share your stories in public, everyone on Facebook can see them. When you check the viewers for your story, you may notice ‘Others’ in the list. ‘Other viewers’ are people who have viewed your story and are on your friends list. Facebook doesn’t reveal their name for privacy reasons. You can always change your story privacy settings to prevent others from peeking at your stories.
