There are two ways to go about it. First, you can either tweak and modify the existing watch faces. For instance, you can add a photo from your phone’s gallery to add a personal touch to your watch. Or, you can install a third-party app like Facer to add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch. At the same time, you can tweak the complications as per your preference. For those unaware, complications are the little information on the watch face. For example, the battery percentage on the top-left corner is a complication. Now that we have it settled, here’s how you can add and customize the watch faces.

How to Add Custom Watch Faces to Apple Watch

The Watch app’s Face Gallery opens the door to tens and dozens of watch faces. The best part is that they are categorized well, making it easier to find the one you like. Apart from the available faces, the Watch app also lets you add photos and emojis to these watch faces. If this method interest you, follow the steps below. Step 1: Open the Watch app on your iPhone and tap on the Face Gallery tab. Now, scroll down until you see the option for Photos. Tap on it to select it. Step 2: Next, tap on Album or Photos option at the bottom to select the photos. For now, you can select up to 24 individual photos. Once done, tap on the Add button. Step 3: Now scroll down to edit the complications. Tap on one of the two options and select the complication of your choice. Here, you get options like Compass, Reminders, Heart Rate, etc. Select two complications that suit your requirements the best. Once done, tap on Add to add the watch face you just designed, to the My Watch section. Step 4: Now, head over to the My Watch section to see the new watch face. Tap to select it. Scroll down and select Set as current Watch Face. The best part is that you can see the moments leading right up to the photo if you select Live Photos. You can follow the steps above for the Memoji watch face as well. But at the end of the day, the Photos Watch Face doesn’t give you nearly as many options as the other watch faces. You get to lay with only two complications to play with, and that’s about it. Besides that, the all-lit display can also be a huge battery guzzler. So, if you want a myriad of things to show up when you lift your wrist, the best option would be to tweak the complications of some of the existing watch faces. To do so, select any of the watch faces. In our case, we have chosen to go ahead with the Meridian watch faces. These watch faces have 3-4 complications, making it easy to keep the important things at the top. All you need to do is choose the complications of your liking. Once done, tap on Add and then apply the watch face to your watch.

Method 2: Via Third-Party Apps

As noted earlier, third-party apps like Facer also lets you add custom watch faces to your Apple Watch. Facer is a freemium app and comes with both free and paid watch faces. So naturally, when it comes to customizing the watch face, the free version has lesser options. For example, you can only add one complication. Get Facer However, if you plan to upgrade, Facer opens its doors to more customization options and watch face layouts. Step 1: Open Facer and switch to the Home tab. Tap on the ‘Create your own design’ button at the top. Step 2: Select one of the watch face and tap on the Plus icon. This will show you all the complications that you can add. Select one as per your preference. Repeat the above step for the complications. Tap on one of the shapes to do so. Step 3: Once everything has been added, tap on the Blue icon in the middle to push the watch face to the Watch app. Again, the usual rules apply. Head over to the Watch app to apply the new watch face. Other than the custom watch faces, Facer also has a mix of free and paid watch faces. For instance, we loved some of the minimal faces. But at the end of the day, these watch faces bind to some specific layouts. This means you can’t have any random layout of your choice. That said, the layouts are practical and will get your work done.

Face-Off

Naturally, adding the required complications to the Apple Watch face makes it more practical to use. Finally, you just need to lift your wrist to see the important details, like reminders, steps taken, or the amount of water you have drunk that day. To get the most out of your Apple Watch, you can also add a few apps that support complications to your phone to get the most out of your watch. For instance, you can add Shazam if you like to identify a song instantly. However, keep in mind that your smartwatch battery may be affected if you go overboard with the watch face.
