However, frankly, how many times do we watch videos offline these days? Thanks to video streaming websites like YouTube, one can watch episodes of TV shows and even full length movies on the web. Still, just like when playing the videos locally, there might be scenarios where you might have to leave a YouTube video in between. Wouldn’t it be convenient if YouTube too resumed exactly from where we left off? We can of course pause it but that’s not what we are talking about here. We are talking about closing the browser (you might need to do that sometimes) and then opening it back, going to YouTube and playing that same video right from that exact point where you left off. Could this be done? Let’s see how we can make it possible.

ResumeLater for Firefox

ResumeLater is a nifty add-on for Firefox using which you can bookmark the YouTube videos before you exit the browser and later use the saved information to resume it. To use the add-on, make sure you are running an up-to-date version of Firefox on your computer and install resumeLater. The add-on does not require a browser restart and you can straight away start using it. After you install the extension, you will notice a small green play button at the bottom-left corner of the screen. When you wish to bookmark the position of a YouTube video, click on the green play button and add it to the list. You can add as many videos as you would like and later when you wish to resume it, simply click on the saved link. Note: You will have to save video position each time you wish to remember a new position. The link too will have to be deleted manually once you have watched them.

Video Resumer for Chrome

Video Resumer for Chrome is a very simple, plug and play extension that monitors the YouTube video positions in real-time and automatically resumes them from where the user left off. Everything is taken care of automatically and therefore even if you don’t want to remember the position for a particular video, there’s nothing you can do about it. But then, that probably won’t be much of a nuisance I guess. Cool Tip: Pause for Later is another cool extension for Chrome using which you can remember the last played position for online videos. However unlike Video Resumer which is only restricted to YouTube, Pause for Later works for almost any online video streaming service including Vimeo and Hulu. However it’s not plug and play though.

Workaround for other browsers.

If you use any other browser like Opera or Safari, there might not be any add-on available for the task. But don’t worry, I will show you how you can bookmark the video manually as well. While watching a video, simply pause it at the position from where you want to resume later and click on the Share button. When the sharing options open up, you will see a link to share the video along with a timer box which asks you the time at which you want to start the video. If you have already paused the video, the value will be filled in automatically as soon as you check the Starts at option. You can now bookmark the sharing link and just use it to resume the video from that point next time.

Conclusion

So that was how you can remember the last played position of a video on YouTube. If you know of a dedicated add-on for Opera and Safari which can pull it off, don’t forget to tip us through comments.
