Thankfully, OpenAI has rolled out a new feature called ChatGPT Shared Links that allows users to create and share links to their conversations. Although the feature can now be accessed, there are still some things to know, including how to create and share a ChatGPT conversation link and open it, along with all the use cases. How to Create ChatGPT Conversation Link
As of writing this guide, you can only share the ChatGPT Shared Links from the browser version. However, OpenAI has confirmed that the feature will soon roll out for the ChatGPT app for iOS. Let’s begin. Step 1: Visit ChatGPT on any browser and log in, if not already. Visit ChatGPT Step 2: Go to the sidebar where the ChatGPT chat history is. Step 3: Choose the chat history you want to share. Step 4: Hit the share icon on the current chat. Step 5: Here, you can change the chat name or choose whether to show your name. Step 6: Once you make the necessary changes, hit Copy Link. Step 7: Paste it where you want to share.
How to Manage ChatGPT Shared Link
Now that you know how to share your ChatGPT conversations, let’s look at what to do when you receive the ChatGPT Shared Links. Step 1: Open the ChatGPT shared link that you have received. Step 2: You will be redirected to your web browser, where you can see the name, date, and prompt of the conversation. If the creator has added their name, it will also be visible for those who open the link. Note: The current conversation users can see is only the preview, which you can view even without login into OpenAI. Step 3: To access the conversation, hit ‘Continue this conversation.’ Step 4: Log in to your ChatGPT account. If you don’t have an account, hit Sign up and follow the instructions. Tip: If you are already logged in to ChatGPT, you will be redirected to the chat screen with the conversation. You can now continue with the conversation. Remember that whatever changes you make to the prompt from the shared link won’t make any difference to the original conversation. To change the prompt, hit the edit button > make necessary changes and hit ‘Save & Submit.’ You can also share this conversation as a separate ChatGPT shared link. Note: The shared link will only contain information about the first query and its answer. You won’t be able to see the rest of the conversation.
Report Content of ChatGPT Shared Link
If you notice any issue with the conversation received, you can report that to OpenAI. Here’s how: Step 1: Open the ChatGPT shared link you want to report on your browser. Step 2: Hit Report content at the bottom. Step 3: Choose the reason. Additionally, elaborate on the issue in the text box and hit Submit report. Step 4: You’ll receive a confirmation about the report. Hit Close to exit.
How to Update a Shared Link After It Is Created
Step 1: Open ChatGPT and choose the conversation you want to update. Step 2: To change the link name, hit the edit icon. Step 3: Update the name and hit the check mark. Tip: If you don’t want to make any changes, hit the cross button.
To Edit the Prompt
Step 1: Hit the edit button next to the prompt. Step 2: Once you make the necessary edits, hit ‘Save & submit.’ Tip: If you don’t want to make any changes, hit cancel.
To Edit ChatGPT Shared Link
Step 1: Hit the Share button. Step 2: Hit the three-dot icon. Step 3: Choose ‘Share your name’ or Share anonymously. Step 4: Once you make the necessary changes, hit ‘Update and Copy Link.’ Keep in mind even if you have made the changes and updated the ChatGPT shared links, anyone with the previous link can still see the original version.
How to Delete ChatGPT Shared Link
If you mistakenly shared your ChatGPT conversations, you can quickly delete them. Most messaging platforms let you delete the message for both parties within a certain amount of time after sending it. Check if you can do that in the first place, else you can check the below methods:
Delete the Link Directly
Step 1: Open the conversation you shared on ChatGPT. Step 2: Hit the Share button. Step 3: Now, hit the three-dot icon at the bottom. Step 4: Choose Delete Link. Now, whenever the user tries to access the conversation through the link, they will receive an error message. However, they can still view the prompt and answer in preview mode.
Delete Chat
Apart from that, you can delete the ChatGPT conversation which you shared. However, this will also prevent even you from accessing it again. This will also prevent anyone with the link from viewing the conversation in preview mode.
Delete the ChatGPT Account
Step 1: Log in to your ChatGPT account and open the sidebar. Step 2: Hit the three-dot icon and choose Settings. Step 3: Go to Data controls tab and hit Delete next to Delete account. Note: You might be asked to log in again if you have a session of more than 10 minutes. Step 4: Type your email and type DELETE in all caps in the required text box to confirm. Step 5: Once you have added the necessary information, hit ‘Permanently delete my account.’ This will erase your data in ChatGPT along with the access to view any conversations in the shared links for anyone.
