Thanks to Yue Yang who developed this method to bring together Siri and ChatGPT. While there’s no official ChatGPT app for iPhone, this seems like a good way to make the best of what it has to offer on an iPhone. However, this method isn’t as straightforward as installing an app, but you can follow the step-by-step instructions, and trust us to make the process a breeze.
Siri and ChatGPT: How Does the Integration Work
OpenAI has made it possible to integrate ChatGPT into other products using API keys. Now, you might be wondering what API keys mean. Application Programming Interface keys – or API keys are tools utilized by developers that permit them to connect and integrate different services for users. In this process, once you download the API Keys from OpenAI for ChatGPT and connect them to Siri, you are essentially providing identifiers and keys that permit Siri to use ChatGPT. Therefore, our first step would be to download the API keys from OpenAI’s website. Here’s how to do it.
Generate OpenAI API Key for ChatGPT
We first have to download the OpenAI API key from your account. Here’s how to do that. Step 1: Go to OpenAI’s website. Visit OpenAI’s Website Step 2: Log in with your OpenAI account or create one if you do not have an existing account. Step 3: Once you log in, tap on the hamburger menu icon. Step 4: Tap on Personal at the bottom of the list. Step 5: Select ‘View API keys’. Step 6: Tap on ‘Create new secret key’. Step 7: This generates an API Key. Tap on the copy option and paste it somewhere safe so that you have access to it. Once you generate your API key, you need to add the shortcut. Let’s begin with that.
Create and Use the Siri-ChatGPT Shortcut
Shortcuts on iPhone have been one of the best additions over the recent few years. It’s almost like waving a magic wand to automate tasks on your iPhone. And no wonder it was used to integrate ChatGPT into Siri as well. Here’s how we can add the Shortcut that will enable us to use ChatGPT with Siri on your iPhone. Step 1: Visit the GitHub page of the developer from the link below. Visit GitHub Page for Shortcut Step 2: Scroll down to find ‘ChatGPT Siri 1.2.4’ and tap on the ‘English Version’ to download the Shortcut. Step 3: You will be redirected to the Shortcuts app. Tap on ‘Set Up Shortcut’. Step 4: Paste the API Key you generated. Tap on Next. Step 5: Tap on Next again. Step 6: Tap on Add Shortcut. Step 7: This adds the ChatGPT shortcut. We need to provide a few permissions. So, tap on the Shortcut to run it for the first time. Type a sample message and tap on Done. Step 8: Tap on Allow so that the Shortcut can access OpenAI’s servers. Step 9: Tap on Allow for permissions to copy the results to your clipboard. The shortcut is ready for use and you can trigger it using Siri. However, we’d recommend you rename the shortcut to something more convenient. We went ahead and named it ‘Siri Bro’ – probably indicating a more intelligent, ChatGPT-powered brother of Siri. Step 10: We can now trigger the shortcut by saying ‘Hey Siri – Siri Bro‘. Time to treat ourselves to a pancake for finishing this task. Let’s ask for a recipe for a Pancake. There we have it – Siri is now supercharged with ChatGPT.
