countless games available for iPhone users on the App Store, only a very select few can be considered instant classics. Plants vs Zombies is a great example of this: A tower defense game that has you planting different kinds of plants and vegetables with varied powers to defend your home from invading troops of zombies. Plants vs Zombies 2, the newest entry in this series, brings more of the same fun tower defense gameplay, and the great thing about this is that you don’t need to be an expert on the genre or to even have played the first one in order to enjoy it. In fact, if you are just starting out with Plants vs Zombies 2, here are some cool tips to get you started in the best possible way with this popular game.
1. Use a Barricade of Wall-nuts
Wall-nuts in the game are used to protect your most valuable plants, like Sunflowers for example, from zombies by blocking their path for a short while. And since sunflowers are usually planted at the far left of the screen, that means Wall-nuts will also be there most of the time. However, besides this obvious location, I found Wall-nuts to be extremely useful when placed at the right of the screen at the beginning of a stage. This slows down the first batch of zombies and gives you plenty of time to plan your strategy before the first enemy advances.
2. Potato Mines Everywhere!
At the early stages of Plants vs Zombies 2, the amount of zombies you have to deal with is fairly manageable. However, as you move along the game stages become increasingly difficult and plagued by zombies to the point that it becomes hard to keep track of all of them. One of the best ways to deal with this is to plant as many Potato Mines as you can during the early part of a stage. That way, if you leave a place unattended by accident, not only will you be covered in case a zombie sneaks by, but also the sound of the explosion will tip you off about what just happened.
3. When In a Pinch, Spend Some (Virtual) Cash
In Plants vs Zombies 2, you will have access to plenty of different power-ups and upgrades, all of which give you special abilities. The best example during the early stages of the game is the Plant Food, which temporarily enhances your plants’ abilities or attack power. However, plant food is not always readily available, which might cause trouble if you are in a tough situation facing zombies. Thankfully, in these cases you can use the in-game currency you earn by completing levels to buy upgrades like these. To do it, just tap the empty upgrade when playing and the amount will be immediately deducted from your in-game balance.
4. Learn How Zombies Move
Curiously enough, the patterns that zombies follow don’t change at all in the game’s levels. So if on any given level you see the first zombie show up on the second row and then the next one on the third row, if you replay the level they will follow the same pattern, which allows you to make a strategy and plan your first moves better. So if you have been having doubts about playing Plants vs Zombies 2, just use these tips to start. You might find yourself strangely addicted to this fun and colorful tower defense game.
