Audiobooks ) are a great way to kill some time while learning something during your commute or while working out. I usually listen to an episode during my bike ride and so far it has been an amazing experience. If you were thinking of diving into the podcast world, we’ve got you covered. This post lists the best podcasts on technology, comedy, design/development along with two kinda weird and funny podcasts that are popular among the podcast-listening audience. If you are not a part of that audience, pick one of these and get started!

1. For the Tech Enthusiast

If you are the kind of chap that likes to keep up with the latest and greatest from the tech world, these are the podcasts for you.

This Week in Tech

TWIT will quite simply let you know of all the things in tech you might have missed the past week. Leo Laporte runs this, an old and trusted name in the world of tech podcasts.

The News

This is a short one. Really short. In under 5 minutes Myke Hurley will read out the news of the day. Totally worth the time.

The Vergecast

I have to admit this is not so much as a tech podcast as a bunch of people who write about tech talking about anything they like. But it’s fun and sometimes even informative! If you wander around the internet reading about tech, I’m sure you already have an opinion about The Verge. That should make the decision of getting into The Vergecast much easier.

The AnandTech Podcast

The Devil is always in the details. And Anand Shimpi and Brian Klug will surely bring them out for you. As you know, AnandTech is the ultimate site for the tech geek. They review, analyze and scrutinize tech products in minute detail. If that sounds like your idea of fun, The AnandTech Podcast will make you feel right at home.

The Verge Mobile Show

The Verge Mobile Show, as the name suggests, hails from the same folks who bring you The Verge and The Vergecast. Here, Dieter Bohn, Chris Ziegler, Vlad Savov and Dan Seifert will talk about the latest and the greatest mobile phones and everything revolving around it. Think of it as The Vergecast for phones, only less weird.

2. For the Apple fan

You love Apple. You don’t have to be shy about it. These people are not. They talk about everything related to Apple and how you can use Apple devices to make your personal and work life a lot better. Hey, what else are gadgets for?

Mac Power Users

If you have a Mac and you use it for anything other than browsing Facebook and Reddit, you owe it to yourself to listen to Mac Power Users. Katie and David have introduced me to a lot of new Mac and web technologies and I hope they do the same for you.

The Prompt

Self proclaimed as “The World’s Greatest Podcast”, Stephen, Myke and Federico talk about the culture surrounding Apple and related companies. The Prompt steers more toward iOS than Mac, with Federico talking about how he runs his website from an iPad mini. Oh, and it’s also funny.

The Talk Show

The Talk show was headed by Dan Benjamin, founder of podcast network 5by5 which hosts many of my favorite shows and John Gruber of Daring Fireball, inventor of Markdown. But recently it retired from the 5by5 network and so did Dan. Now it’s just John with special guests who talk about technology, workflows, and using Macs to make your life better. It’s still just as good.

3. For the Google Fan

Google is everywhere. In our pockets, our mail, our computers and will soon be sitting squarely on our face. Getting to know more about it can’t hurt, right?

This Week in Google

This podcast tells you all you need to know about Google in the given week. Literally. It’s a relatively long podcast, with sessions lasting north of 2 hours sometimes. But when it comes to all things Google, it does not get better than this.

All About Android

All About Android is the place you get to geek out about Android. Every week, Jason Howell, Gina Trapani and Ron Richard talk about the biggest Android news, the latest hardware, the best apps and the geekiest how-to’s.

4. Just for Laughs

The Nerdist

This is a no brainer. The Nerdist sits down and talks to Comedians for an hour and it’s not only funny but also insightful. If you are a Stand Up fan, getting to know more about Aziz’s latest Netflix exclusive special as he recounts the hilarious events from his past is a delight.

Terrified with David Ross

The description for Terrified with Dave Ross reads “Dave Ross interviews comedians, musicians, and other famous types to find out what they don’t like about themselves.” I know,  it doesn’t sound like a comedy podcast from The Nerdist network but this is where you’d be wrong. Dave Ross is a brilliant interviewer and manages to turn the negativity into absolute fun.

5. For the Web Designer/Developer

Podcasts are basically radio shows re-imagined for the web. And it makes sense for the webmasters to have their own shows. You will find many web related shows out there and while it’s fun to binge on your favorite shows, remember the web moves fast, so a two year old episode might not be very helpful.

The Web Ahead

Here, Jen Simmons discusses what the web of future will look like. It’s a great way to discover new and upcoming web technologies you normally wouldn’t.

The Big Web Show

As the name suggests, The Big Web Show, hosted by Jeffrey Zeldman focusses more on the large scale technologies and adaptation of the internet. The in depth talks about tackling several online problems using newer technologies are fascinating.

Shop Talk

This is another show that’s really informative and rather fun to listen to. Shop Talk is a show about web design, development and funny sound effects. Shop Talk features episodes dedicated to answering web-related questions of viewers and also hosts a collection of industry leading guests to talk about things that actually matter i.e. how to make the WWW a better place.

6. The Weird

Bionic

Bionic started as a show about tech and media ecosystems hosted by Matt Alexander and Myke Hurley. But with episode 51 it changed for the better. It turned into a wonderfully weird show about two friends talking about ridiculous stuff they found on the internet and loads of internal jokes. Start with episode 51 titled United Queendom to get sucked in to this world of awkward silence and hilarious gags.

The Incomparable

The Incomparable is the pinnacle of geekdom. Here, Jason Snell talks with a rotating panel of guests about stuff geeks love, including movies, books, TV, comics, classic games and more. There’s a lot of content out there, and these guys help you find it.
